VidChecker is simple
to install on PCs / servers. The software is optimized
to make use of recent multi-core and multi-thread CPUs
to maximise processing speed. It is fully scalable from
a single license that enables 4 files to be processed
at the same time, to 8 or 12 files simultaneously on
a single server, or spread across many servers working
together in a VidChecker Grid for
enterprise installations requiring very high throughput.
The SOAP/XML based API allows it to be integrated into
production workflows with asset management and automation
systems.
Checking AND Correction plus re-encode
VidChecker
not only does thorough QC checks of file, video and
audio parameters but also automatically ‘Checks
and Corrects’ video and audio to ensure
video is good to distribute and transmit. This includes
meeting audio loudness legislation US ‘CALM’
Act and ATSC, EBU recommendations, and can automatically
write out corrected files.
Intelligently
corrects over limit Video Levels:
- Video Luma level - including black levels
- Video Chroma - color limit errors
- Video RGB - gamut/legality problems
Video 'legalizers' simply clamp or clip peak values
that exceed the limits. This squeezes the range of picture
contrast, can produce color artefacts where the colors
become saturated and visual artefacts when the video
is re-encoded. VidCheck
has developed intelligent algorithms
(patent applied) that dynamically analyze the
image to correct limit violations while maintaining
the integrity and quality of the picture.

Intelligently
corrects over limit Audio Peak levels and Loudness:
- Audio peak level - levels that are too high
- Audio Loudness measured to ITU-R BS.1770 and normalised
to required program loudness levels - makes sure that
audio levels are correct and legal
- DialNorm correction
The
US Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation
(CALM) Act requires the Federal Communications
Commission to regulate the audio of commercials from
being broadcast at louder volumes than the program material
they accompany. CALM legislation became law on 1 September
2012 in Canada, 13 December in the USA, so meeting this
legislation is vital for all broadcasters and post-production
houses in North America.
The
ATSC practice A/85 for Audio loudness for DTV recommends
use of ITU-R BS.1770-2 for loudness measurement and
techniques to control peak levels and loudness. The
EBU has issued loudness normalisation recommendation
R128 and Tech 3341. These are all covered by VidChecker
including auto correction for out-of-spec levels.
VidFixer
Iincludes all the QC and Correction facilities

QC, automatically correct errors, and output it transcoded
to different user formats (MPEG-2, H264, MP4, DV, VC-1).
Output formats include
- Containers: MPEG-2 TS, MPEG-2 PS, MXF, MP4, ASF,
AV, RAW

VidApps
plugins for NLEs provide checking and correction as
part of the edit process. VidApps are designed to be
used as the last stage of post-production, immediately
before the media is rendered. In this way the user can
be confident that the rendered media will comply with
standards requirements.
- VidApps
- Audio: audio loudness, peak level
and PPM checking and correction
- VidApps
- PSE: testing for flashing video and
potentially harmful photo-sensitive epilepsy patterns
- VidApps
- Video: checking and correction of
video levels, video quality and minor video glitches
